Resources
Resources for worship
Within our worship services, we only sing metrical translations of the Book of Psalms. This practice is known as exclusive psalmody.
Metrical Psalms
We primarily sing from Sing Psalms: a modern translation produced by the Free Church of Scotland. There are a number of useful resources for this translation found on the Free Church of Scotland website, including the words in a number of different formats, as well as suggestions for tunes and copies of the actual tunes themselves. (Click here if you’re just interested in a simple PDF of the translation).
We also sometimes sing from the 1650 Scottish Psalter. The words for this translation can be found in some of the Free Church links above, or a simple PDF of the words can be downloaded from the Christian Classics Ethereal Library.
Singing the Psalms
A number of recordings of the Psalms being sung can be found on the PCEA Psalms YouTube channel. These are intended as a resource to help with learning and singing the Psalms.
Subordinate Standards
The Westminster Confession of Faith
Our church adheres to the Westminster Confession of Faith as a subordinate standard. This means that, while we acknowledge that the Bible is the only infallible rule of faith and practice, we affirm that the Westminster Confession is a clear and faithful statement of Biblical teachings.
Other subordinate standards
We also affirm a number of other standards formulated by the historic Presbyterian church in Scotland, and affirmed by churches across the world. These standards are to be understood in the light of the Acts passed by the Assembly of the Church of Scotland when they were adopted.
