About
WHAT WE BELIEVE
We believe and declare the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ, God’s Son.
We believe the Bible to be the inspired word of God and the only foundation for how we are to serve God and live our lives as Christians.
We believe in one God, the triune God of Scripture – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He has created and controls the whole world according to his excellent purpose and plan.
We believe that salvation is only by God’s grace through faith in Christ Jesus, whose perfect life and sacrificial death has made full atonement for sin for every person who believes in him.
We believe God’s promise of a resurrection to eternal life when Christ returns in glory, and of a new heavens and a new earth where God will dwell with his people forever. We also believe God’s word that there will be a judgment and eternal punishment for all who reject Christ.
We believe that we are sinners by nature and that every part of our lives is affected by sin. Yet it is our desire, by God’s grace, to serve and worship Him with all our hearts, to have fellowship with his people, and to study and know His word to apply it to our lives and the life of our congregation without compromise.
You can find out more about what we believe and why on our denomination website.
Our church adheres to the Westminster Confession of Faith as a subordinate standard. This means that, while we acknowledge that the Bible is the only infallible rule of faith and practice, we affirm that the Westminster Confession is a clear and faithful statement of Biblical teachings.
OUR WORSHIP
Our pattern of worship is simple and our desire is that it would be heartfelt, reverent, biblical and spiritual. The reading and preaching of God’s word occupies a prominent place in our services. Our singing is also from God’s word given in the book of Psalms.
THE PCEA
The Presbyterian Church of Eastern Australia was formed in 1846 and is made up of congregations in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania. It is the oldest Presbyterian denomination in Australia. Today it consists of some 16 congregations organised into 13 charges. There are 3 Presbyteries, and the Synod of Eastern Australia meets annually. We also actively seek to develop relations and foster fellowship with other Bible-believing Christians and churches.
OUR BRISBANE CONGREGATION
The Brisbane congregation meets in a classic Queenslander style church building on the corner of Shaw Road and Emma Street in Wooloowin, Brisbane. The Rev Jim Klazinga has served faithfully in our congregation as the minister since 2010, being called from New Zealand and previously Canada.
As a congregation of those who love the Lord Jesus, we come together first and foremost to worship the true God. Our heritage is the historic reformed Christian faith. Our fellowship is warm and genuine with emphasis on encouragement and building one another up in the things of God.
We worship our God in two services each Sunday, according to the pattern of morning and evening. Services on a Sunday include the singing of Psalms to God, giving of offerings, prayers lifted up, and a sermon of about 30 minutes, as well as Lord’s Supper, usually on the first Sunday of every second month. Our desire in the preaching of the Word is to know nothing but Christ crucified.
